Following last night’s SGM the clubs voted for the new season to start on September 5th.
Poynton FC will hopefully start their 2020/21 Cheshire League season on Saturday 5th September following the SGM in which all member clubs voted on the proposed start date.
The league also voted to extend the season to 31st May 2021 to ensure that a full season, hopefully involving the Cup competitions can be completed.
There was also a significant rule change with 5 substitutes now being allowed to be used, an increase from 3. So the new rule, you can name and use 5 subs but this is not a roll on roll off change.
With the season now only 3 weeks away manager Jon Hudson will start to confirm his final squad next week. “It’s been a difficult pre-season with a lot going on off the field with some of the lads so it will be good to get the squad finalised” said Hudson.
The club are also close to bringing in some new signings. Hudson however is remaining secretive about the new additions. “We are speaking to three players at the moment but until they are signed we won’t comment – we don’t want to alert other clubs and we want to do our business the right way”.
Next up for Poynton is a home pre-season friendly against a Macclesfield Town XI, 3pm kick off tomorrow at Poynton Sports Club.
