THE MATCH

Poynton tok all three points on Saturday thanks to an impressive second half performance against struggling Daten at London Road.

Manager Ed Haslam was forced to make more changes followoing the midweek draw with Congleton, midfield trio Allen, Cavanagh and captain James Manson all ruled out of the game. Haslam also handed 19 year old keeper Dan Watterson a first team debut.

The game started slowly with neither side able to create any clear openings. Sam Dickov and Jay Burgess both thought they had got in behind the Daten defence but the high line was working well and both were flagged offside.

Daten’s only real chance on the first was came from a free kick after Luke Jones brought down the Daten striker but the attempt failed to test Watterson as the first half finished all square.

Whatever was said at half time seemed to do the job for the home side, they flew out the blocks and 35 seconds into the second half they took the lead, Tom Bowey firing home after a slick passing move.

Moments later it was 2-0, another stunning counter attack and Jay Burgess was in the right place to turn the ball past the keeper from 6 yards out.

Daten tried to rally and created their best chance but Watterson reacted quickly and made a great block.

Graham replaced Bowey with ten minutes to go and within five minutes the 18 year old had had scored twice, both time capitlaising on hesitant defending to punish the visitors.

In injury time he had the chance to complete an incredible hat-trick but his penalty was saved.
