RESERVES READY TO GO AFTER LONG PRE-SEASON

By 5th September 2019 No Comments

This time last season Poynton Reserves had played eight league games after a busy August but after the league decided to restructure the Reserve set up the season now gets under way this weekend.

It has allowed Manager Jon Hudson to put his squad through a busy pre-season schedule that started back in June and contained 10 pre-season fixtures. With some tough opposition it has been a hard pre-season but Hudson feels his squad is ready.

“We wanted to test ourselves and we have done that. It would have been easy to play teams that we knew we would beat easily but that is a wasted friendly. We know how tough the league will be this season so I wanted us to be pushed every game”.

The Cheshire League has now split the Reserve Division into two leagues and Division 1 contains ten very strong teams.

Club legend Mark Faulkner has rejoined the club to add valuable experience to the young squad.

The club has promoted several players from their Junior Section into the squad as well as adding some new faces but with an average age of just 23 in the squad the experience of Faulkner, Oakes, Garvey, Clancy, Rashleigh, Tattler and new captain Jon Cairns with be invaluable.

The season starts on Saturday with a tricky cup tie away to new boys Daten Development Squad.
