The 2020/21 Cheshire League season is likely to start in September following the announcement from the FA over the weekend.

It follows the government’s approval on Friday, as lockdown measures in sport continue to be eased. The new guidance comes with protocols in order to mitigate the transmission risk of Covid-19.

These include no goal celebrations and disinfecting of equipment.

The Cheshire FA will meet this week with members to confirm all this information and set a date for the return.

Phased return – guidance from the Football Association:

  • Until 31 July: Competitive training can begin, with the overall group size (inclusive of coaches) being limited to 30 people
  • From August: Competitive matches can begin – e.g. pre-season fixtures, festivals and small-sided football competitions
  • From September: Grassroots leagues, men’s National League system, women’s football pyramid tiers three to six and FA competitions can commence

Manager Jon Hudson is ready for a busy few weeks. “Pre-season training has been excellent so far in difficult circumstances. The effort from the lads has been first class and now we can step this up with pre-season friendlies next month ahead of the season starting in September.”

The club are hoping to announce the pre-season schedule this week.
