POYNTON RES 1
WINSTANLEY W RES 1
The winter weather turned up to Poynton on Saturday, strong wind and constant rain fell for 90 minutes and despite a dominant performance visitors Winstanley Warriors had to settle for a point after a hard fought game.
The visitors, with no 1st Team game, arrived with a strong line up and dominated possession in a scrappy opening 45 minutes without really testing keeper Adam Clancy.
It was the home side that created the better chances, Jon Cairns, back after six weeks out with a back injury, bursting through and forcing the keeper Daniel Brown into a smart save.
Winstanley were controlling the ball, playing the better football, mainly through the excellent Anthony Smith as Poynton struggled with the conditions.
The first half ended with a couple of half chances for either side.

The second half started with more of the same, the rain remained, the wind was stronger and the light seemed to fade, the introduction of substitute Cameron MacDougall seemed to be a turning point as Poynton had their best spell of the game.
Cairns, Leavy and Tattler all creating chances without testing the Warriors keeper.
With the final fifteen minutes approaching the deadline was finally broken, against the run of play a huge long ball caught out Jones and the quick thinking from Brown saw him gather the ball and finish under Clancy, their first shot on target.
Poynton didn’t let it affect the game equalised straight away, a great ball in by Luke Jones was met by Merrygold at the back post to turn the ball home and bring the sides level.
The home side created more chances, Merrygold nearly grabbed his second after a scramble and Tattler fired a great chance straight at the keeper.
The visitors nearly won it at the death, a similar scramble in the box, Rashleigh and Jones blocking the initial chances and Clancy did enough to prevent the goal.
A well-earned point, both sides giving it all on a horrible day for football.

MAN OF THE MATCH
Chris Rashleigh & Luke Jones
No better central defensive partnerships in the league than these two at the moment, both outstanding again at the heart of the Poynton defence. On more than one occasion threw their bodies on the line to block Winstanley attacks and kept the dangerous attack quiet.
