New manager Ed Haslam has made his first big decision of the season naming James Manson as the new club captain.

Following the departure of former skipper Jake Wright a replacement was needed and the midfielder will be a popular choice having picked up the Players Player of the Year award last season

Manager Ed Haslam said “James fits the bill of a club captain perfectly – he was voted players-player last season, he has the full respect of all the changing rooms, you can count on one hand how many games he missed, he leads by example on and off the pitch, his work rate is incredible and I know this decision will be well received by the rest of the lads”.

Haslam has also named his vie-captain for the new campaign with Jason Leach taking on the role.

The manager added “Jason has come through the Poynton ranks, from Reserves to First Team in the last couple of seasons. We want to maintain the ethos of promoting from our U21’s and Reserves and Jason is testament to this.

He is a perfect role model, I want our younger player to see how far Jason has come and push to achieve similar. Jason leads by example of the pitch, his work rate is second to none. He was our top goal scorer last year, an unbelievable achievement from midfield, this is even more impressive when you look the standard of our front men”.

Poynton have a behind-closed-doors game this weekend before taking on Manchester Central, Maine Road, Dukinfield Town and Old Alts in Pre-Season before starting their Cheshire League campaign in August.

Haslam has also been busy in the transfer market and is expected to announce new additions to the squad later this week.
