Poynton 3 Macclesfield Town XI 3

Poynton continued their pre-season with a battling draw with Macclesfield Town EDS but left it late to level things up.

Manager Jon Hudson was missing eight regulars but did add new signing Mikey Rattle to the squad and also gave more opportunities to young players Lewis Hall, Josh Abbott and Nick Knight.

With Jason Leach ruled out with a back injury and club captain James Manson again unavailable, Jake O’Regan was handed the captains armband.

On a warm day the youthful visitors made a bright start, volleying just past the post in the opening minutes but as the game settled both sides battled hard for control.

Striker Lewis Hall almost marked his first start with a goal but his shot was cleared off the line.

On 19 minutes the visitors took the lead. Poor marking from a corner saw Knight find space, his shot was flying wide but Tyler James reacted brilliantly to turn the ball into the back of the net.

There was a huge blow to Poynton next. Skipper O’Regan went down after a clearance and was carried off with suspected groin strain, he was replaced by Adam Clancy.

Just before the break Macclesfield doubled their lead. Great work by Clegg created the opportunity for James and he made no mistake to beat Clancy.

It was nearly 3-0 straight after the second half started, Joe Pullen in the right place at the right time to block on the line.

Finally Poynton got the goal they had pushed for, Wright and Graham involved and Tom Ratican timed his run to perfection to turn the ball home.

However it was the visitors who again went two goals clear, MacDougall was adjudged to have brought down the Macc player in the area and the impressive James converted the spot kick to complete his hat-trick.

There was more controversy with Macclesfield player Callum Knight fortunate to escape with just a yellow. Firstly he fouled Pullen with a stupid high challenge and then in the melee that followed he grabbed MacDougall around the neck. The referee decided just a yellow card.

Luke Jones heads home

However, the punishment was swift as from the free kick, Johnson curled a superb delivery into the box and Luke Jones ghosted in to flick a header over the keeper.

The home side gained momentum and with 83 minutes gone levelled up with an absolute beauty from youngster Josh Abbott. He picked the ball up 25 yards out and his an unstoppable shot passed the keeper.

The game ended level with both sides happy with the final outcome.
