CHESHIRE FOOTBALL LEAGUE PREMIER DIVISION
A last-minute winner from substitute Mikey Rattle gave Poynton their first win of the season on a horrendous wet day in Warrington.
Following the disappointing defeat at home to Egerton last week manager Jon Hudson made changes to his team, handing a first start to Ben Jackson, a recall for Andrew Simpson and a full debut for 18-year-old full-back Dylan Bourke. There was also a place on the bench for Otto Millard and Niall Goldrick who have both been impressing in the Reserves this season.
The weather conditions were horrific, the Reserves home game with Garswood was called off earlier in the day. The rain started in the warm up and didn’t stop for the rest of the day.
Both sides started positively, Marcus Graham and Matt Toole looking dangerous in the wide positions and Andrew Simpson showing his quality in the new midfield trio with captain Danny Johnson and Ban Jackson – Jackson showing some early strong tackles that have been missing in previous weeks.
Holt working hard up front tried to catch the keeper off his line with the first shot on target of a cagey opening spell.
Daten created a few half chances but Sam Morris and Luke Jones both looked solid and debutant Dylan Bourke was enjoying an impressive debut.
Both sides continued to play good football but both defences remained on top.

The second half started in the same way with both sides cancelling each other out. Jones picked up a yellow card.
Millard replaced Pullen to make his debut and MacDougall replaced the impressive Jackson.
Daten then created the best chance of the match, a quick break and with a dangerous cross the striker should have scored but his shot smashed against the crossbar and was scrambled clear.
Poynton then went close, a brilliant Johnson free-kick into the box found MacDougall’s header but it went agonisingly over the top of the bar.
Morris was next to go close, a great burst forward but his shot went wide of the target.
With time running out Mikey Rattle was brought on to replace Holt.
With 90 minutes on the clock, Toole picked up the ball and his perfect pass put Rattle through on goal, the youngster showed superb composure to take the ball and roll it past the keeper into the back of the net.
There was still six minutes of injury time but Poynton held strong to win their first game of the season.

After the game manager Jon Hudson spoke to poynton.co.uk about the first victory of the season.
First victory of the season – must be a great feeling?
Yes, very pleased for the lads, they all worked so hard today and we deserved that after such a tough start to the season.
Despite the results we have never doubted the attitude of this group and we know how much this will boost the confidence.
All 16 lads played their part today, the 5 lads on the bench all game were positive on the side and all worked hard when on the pitch which in the conditions was tough.
How impressed were you with the new players today?
They gave us a lift. I’m so pleased for Dylan, he played for me last season in the Reserves so I knew his quality but for him to play so well today on his debut was fantastic.
As for Simo (Andrew Simpson) his record and career speaks for itself. He was exactly the type of player we needed and he put in the performance we expected.
With the senior lads, Simo, Danny Johnson and Matt Toole was have the perfect exmaples for younger lads of how to play and prepare and there’s a great feel in the changing room.
A big game next weekend against Whaley Bridge
Derby games are always special and we know the quality of Whaley. They would probably have won the league last season if it had ended and they have been consistently successful over the past 8/9 seasons.
We have to build on the start we have made and work hard again this week to make sure we keep improving and developing as a team.
