Manager Andy Hurst was a very happy man this morning following Poynton’s dramatic 1-0 victory over local rivals Linotype Cheadle Heath Nomads last night in the Stockport & District FA Cup Final, played at Stockport County FC.
A tight first half followed by a dominating second half performance saw Poynton eventually win the game with Andrew Simpson heading home the winner on 88 minutes.
Hurst said “Such as satisfying way to end with a trophy after a long hard transitional season at the club. We lost to Linotype twice in the league by just the single goal so it was very pleasing to be on the right end of the result tonight”.
The manager also praised his players for their display adding “There were so many good performances from the team, stand outs for me were Jake Wright, Sam Morris, Rick Bailey and Rob Black. We squandered a few chances throughout the game and as the game went on we were starting to think we’d be hit on the counter”.
He also had words for the goalscoring hero, “It was great for Andrew Simpson to come up with the winner so late on. Once the goal went in, I couldn’t see Linotype scoring and we saw the game out brilliantly”.
