MIDDLEWICH T RES 1
POYNTON RES 2
L Jones 61
Evans (pen) 65
Poynton Reserves made it 9 games unbeaten in the League with a battling performance against another in-form side Middlewich Town Reserves.
With Sam Heaton earning a call up to the first team, manager Jon Hudson handed a senior league debut to 16-year old Alfie Jones, brother of Luke – both were to have days to remember. There was also another new signing, James Heminsley on the bench.
Poynton started well, Evans found Goldrick with a great cross field pass, the young winger who turned 20 this week then created the opening with a great piece of skill but fired his shot over the bar.
Goldrick then turned provider, a great free kick found Luke Jones in the area but his header was straight at the goalkeeper. Poynton then created another chance with a wonderful passing move involving five players and ended with Merrygold testing the keeper.
The game became scrappy, a midfield battle, with Evans and Alfie Jones winning their battles and keeping Poynton on top.
Just before the half ended Evans curled a free kick just over the bar and the Middlewich captain was shown a yellow card for dissent.

The second half started much the same with neither side able to create chances but then in the 59th minute the game exploded into life with three minutes of madness! Captain Matt Tattler was replaced by Rigby after picking up a couple of knocks.
With Middlewich breaking quickly Jones pulled back the number 10 who reacted by kicking out at Jones and saw both players receive yellow cards. From the free kick the home side took the lead, the Poynton defence didn’t pick up the movement and Darlington fired home from close range.
The reaction from Poynton was instant, Goldrick swung a great corner in and Luke Jones powered home a header to draw the game level again.
Heminsley came on for his debut replacing Goldrick and on 65 minutes they took the lead. Great work by Evans and Jones released Merrygold who powered his way into the box and was brought down for a clear penalty. Evans stepped up and sent the keeper the wrong way to give Poynton the lead.
Cooke then made the save of the day, a long range shot was parried out and with the striker ready to pounce he threw himself in to get the ball to safety and keep the lead intact.
Poynton then wasted a number of good chances to seal the game and Evans and Rigby both picked up bookings as the game got tense. Watterson and Worth came on and Poynton played out the final moments to record a great victory.
