The summer is over, the floods have stopped for now and the Cheshire Football League returns tonight with Poynton taking on Egerton in the opening game of the season.
New Manager Ed Haslam has been busy in the summer stengthening the squad following the departure of Andy Hurst. With only captain Jake Wright leaving the club, Haslam has been able to bring in four new signings and also bring back five players who played a part last season before moving on.

With the summer weather playing it’s part only three pre-season games were played. A 1-1 draw with Manchester Central, a 3-2 victory over Maine Road and a 2-2 draw with Dukinfield Town completed the schedule.
‘It would have been nice to have played another couple of games but unfortunately the weather put a stop to that; that being said we’ve had a very successful preseason, we leave unbeaten, all new signings making a big impression, I was able to promote a number of reserve players who’ve massively impressed me and I’ve kept hold of all of last years squad expect one. This basically means picking a 16 for Egerton tonight is going to be near enough impossible, there will be some disappointed lads but every single player is playing for that shirt – August will see us play eight games, I need a big squad.”
Two new promoted team meet tonight as highy fancied Blacon Youth take on Lostock Gralam. There’s two local derbies as Daten play Greenalls and Eagle play Billinge. In the other game tonight FC St Helens take on last seasons runners up Altrincham FC Reserves.
