Poynton grabbed a valuable point against pre match league leaders Egerton in a tightly contested game at London Road.
Hurst made 1 change to the starting 11 bringing in Jay Burgess to replace unavailable Mark Faulkner. Paul Garvey returned from injury to gain a substitute place.
Poynton made another bright start to the game, a hardworking attitude defensively and good link up play going forward between Burgess, Simpson, Black and Bowey led to 2 or 3 early chances for the home side.
Egerton’s style of play impressed, always looking to get the ball down and play through midfielder Damani Holness with Thorne and Ruberto looking a threat going forward.
It was Poynton who made the initial breakthrough. Burgess worked well with Black down the left to pull the ball back for Quinn to whip a great first time cross into the near post. Birthday Boy Simpson sharply got across his marker to head home powerfully, 1-0.
Egerton reacted well and began to dominate possession. The following 15 minutes was Poynton’s worst spell of the match and the equaliser felt inevitable. Egerton put in a deep cross from the left and when it wasn’t dealt with properly the ball was poked through to Thorne who kept himself on side to stab home from close range, 1-1.

The second half continued to be a tight game, with Poynton reacting well to being pegged back. Generally, Egerton kept better possession but Poynton were creating the better chances with the game feeling like it could go either way.
Simpson had 2 close range headers blocked and the final ball from Black and Bowey let them down when in good positions.
Hurst and Garvey replaced Simpson and Oakes to give a final push for a winner but it wasn’t to be.
An entertaining, high quality game played out by 2 teams who are both likely to be in the top 5 at the end of the season. Both sides would have felt unlucky to lose the game.
