Poynton FC arrived at London Road looking to put Saturday behind them and make amends for a low par performance last Saturday and looking for their first win at home since April.
Manager, Andrew Hurst was forced into one personnel change, Paul Garvey sustained a slight pull on his hamstring and therefore it was decided not to risk him. Replacing Garvey was Tom Bowey.
Poynton started brightly and started to dictate the tempo, Rob Black and Tom Bowey both began to find space out wide and cause problems but couldn’t find a clear cut opening.
Frustrations started to grow and Poynton started to try and force an opening but the Denton back four remained resilient and minimised Andrew Simpson’s threat up front.
After 30 minutes Denton started to find their feet and their lively attack started to grow into the game. They were awarded a corner kick, a quick delivery found an unmarked Denton player who convert to put the visitors 1-0.
Immediately from kick off Poynton found another gear and started to take full control again; within two minutes it was 1-1, Andrew Simpson found some space and nearly finished in the bottom corner.
A minute later Poynton thought they’d turned the game around when Simpson again had the ball in the back of the net but it was ruled a Poynton player in an off-side position was deemed to be action and therefore the goal was disallowed. This decision left Poynton players, management team and supporters scratching their heads.

It was a fast start from both teams and the Denton attack remained a threat to Nick Ward in goal and the Poynton back four coped very well.
After 55 minutes Poynton made it 2-1. Dan Quinn dispossessed the Denton winger and drove forward, he played the ball into Simpsons feet who perfectly turned the ball behind the oppositions two centre half’s to find the on rushing Chris Allen who superbly found the back on the net.
Poynton made two changes, Faulkner departed for Ryan Stewart and Oaks left the field for Jay Burgess.
Poynton pressed for a third but couldn’t put the game to bed. From a Poynton attack, Denton broke quickly caught Poynton napping, a superb delivery to the back post found the Denton front man to placed the ball just inside the post.
Needing a reaction, player-manager Andrew Hurst entered the game and his impact was immediate, Hurst chased and got on the end of a long ball, Hurst brought the ball down only to be bundled over by the on rushing keeper, the referee had no hesitation in awarding the penalty; Jay Burgess stepped up and found the bottom corner to put Poynton 3-2 up.
The third goal seemly knocked all the wind out of the Denton team. Poynton were awarded a free kick on the right of the 18 yard box, Dan Quinn delivered a perfectly waited delivery and Hurst was on hand to head the ball past the Denton keeper.
The full time whistle arrived and Poynton had gained a hard fought 3 points.
Saturday, Poynton return to the Sports Club where they face an inform Egerton side.
