2 - 2Full Time
Saturday saw Poynton FC on their travels again, this time to face Eagle Sports. With 8 first team players missing, Manager Ed Haslam was forced to bring in three reserve players up, and naming himself on the bench.
Within 10 minutes, Haslam was called into action when Rob Stokoe was forced to come off with a serious knee injury – with no other defence cover, Haslam made his first appearance of the season slotting in at right back.
Poynton remained in control and on the 20 minute mark it was 1-0. Nicky Challinor made a late run into the box and smashed in the ball beyond the Eagle keeper. 35 minute son the clock and Poynton were given a penalty, Sam Dickov’s shot was saved on the line by an Eagle defender and the referee immediately pointed to the spot. Challinor stepped up and grabbed his second and doubled Poyntons tally.
On the stroke of half time, Eagle were awarded a very dubious corner; Poynton didn’t react quick enough and the Eagle forward headed the ball into the back of the net.

With the pitch getting worse, the level of football decreased but it was Eagle who coped the much better and on the hour mark it was 2-2.
The game fizzled out and both teams left feeling that a point was a fair result.
