With 2019/20 now officially over the Cheshire League have confirmed the new league structure for the 2020/21 season.

We have no clear date when the 2020/21 season will start but the powers that be have confirmed the structure for the new campaign.

The also confirmed that The FA Council has now declared the Step 7 Division null and void in line with FA recommendations for the 2019/20 season – so no titles, awards or relegations will take place. The league have decided to use the Points-per-game (PPG) system to allow promotions to take place in League One and Two.

Garswood United

In the Premier League next season there will be 17 teams, Garswood United and Winstanley Warriors joining the 15 teams from last season.

Winnington Avenue 94

In League One there were five promotions confirmed – Knowsley SouthNewton AthleticParklandsPartington and Winnington Avenue 94 will all compete in a 16 team Division.

In League Two, Orford, who are going through a huge transition as a club requested to be relegated and along with new applicants (7 are set to be confirmed) will make up a 14 team division.

The Reserve leagues will remain as two divisions – Division 1 – where Poynton Reserves play will remain the same 10 team competions, with Division 2 increasing to 11 teams with two new teams joining the 2020/21 season.

The Cheshire Football League has also announced that all cup competitions  have been cancelled and null and voided. They have however announced that all 2019/20 Cheshire Football League clubs will be given free admission to these cups next season.

So for now it’s a case of waiting until everybody is given the go-ahead to start the next season. It’s looking like it could be some time but we’ll see. At least we know the set up of the divisions as we prepare for what will be a very tough season in a very competitive Premier Division.
